For the sake of the very few fans of country music on bladi (yes, we're a very small, select group), let's collect and suggest our favorite country songs here...

I'll kick off this thread with one of my all-times favorites: "Love has no pride"

I've had bad dreams too many times
To think that they don't mean much anymore
And fine times have gone and left my sad home
And the friends who once cared just walk out my door

But love has no pride when I call out your name
And love has no pride when there's no one to blame
But I'd give anything to see you again

I've been alone too many nights
To think that you could come back again
I've heard you talk
She's crazy to stay
But this love hurt's me so
I don't care what you say

But love has no pride when I call out your name
And love has no pride when there's no one to blame
But I'd give anything to see you again

If I could buy your love
Then I'd surely try my friend
And if I could pray
My prayers would never end

But if you want me to beg
I'll fall down on my knees
And ask you to come back
I'd be pleading for you to come back
I'd beg for you to come back to me

Love has no pride when I call out your name
And love has no pride when there's no one but myself to blame
But I'd give anything to see you again
Yes I'd give anything to see you again

This is my favorite one..."Calling me" (Kenny Rogers and Don Henley)
Here are the lyrics:

There's a back road leadin' off the hard-top
Half-a-mile past the slingshot tree
Wanders round through a million mem'ries
It's callin' me, callin' me.

There's a white house with fading shutters
The old front door that never needed a key
An' I hear my Momma in the hush of the evenin'
Callin' me, yeah, she's callin' me.

An' no matter where I'm goin'
It reminds me of where I'm from
Just as long as I can hear it
I know I'm not too far gone.

There's a first kiss under the willow
Love so honest, it was hard to believe
An' even when my heart is breakin'
It's callin' me, callin' me.

Yes, it's callin' me
(Ooh, yeah, yeah.)
Callin' me, callin' me.

An' no matter where I'm goin'
It reminds me of where I'm from
Just as long as I can hear it
I know I'm not too far gone.

There's a tiny country chapel
Filled with voices singin' harmony
An' when my soul is lost in the silence
Oh, it's callin'; yes, it's callin' me.

Yes it's callin' me.
(Callin' me.)
Callin'
Oh, it's callin'
Yes, it's callin' me...

(By the way, "Love has no pride" is a beautiful song, thx!)

my FAV is we `ve had enough/ michael jackson
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvjy6MQr6fE
Love was taken from a young life
And no one told her why
Her direction has a dimlight
From one more violent crime

She innocently questioned why
Why her father had to die
She asked the men in blue
How is it that you get to choose
Who will live and who will die
Did god tell you you could decide ?
You saw he didn't run
And that my daddy had no gun

In the middle of a village
Way in a distant land
Lies a poor boy with his broken toy
Too young to understand

He's awaken, ground is shakin
His father grabs his hand
Screaming, crying, his wife's dying
Now he's left to explain

He innocently questioned why
Why his mother had to die
What did these soldiers come here for ?
If they're for peace, why is there war ?

Did God say that they could decide
Who will live and who will die ?
All my mama ever did
Was try to take care of her kids

We're innocently standing by
Watching people lose their lives
It seems as if we have no voice
It's time for us to make a choice

Only god could decide
Who will live and who will die
There's nothing that can't be done
If we raise our voice as one

They've gotta hear it from me
They've gotta hear it from you
They've gotta hear it from us
We can't take it
We've already had enough

They've gotta hear it from me
They've gotta hear it from you
They've gotta hear it from us

We can't take it
We've already had enough

They've gotta hear it from me
They've gotta hear it from you
They've gotta hear it from you baby

We can't take it
We've already had enough

Deep in my soul baby

Deep in your soul and let God decide

Deep in my soul

It's up to me and i'm still alive

They've gotta hear it from us

We can't take it
We've already had enough

It's going down baby
Just let God decide,

It's going on baby
Just let God decide

Deep in my soul baby

We've already had enough

They've gotta hear it from me
They've gotta hear it from you
They've gotta hear it from us

We can't, we can't
We've already had enough

Great contributions guys! ;)

This one's on the melancholic side: it's about an old man who's slowly losing the love of his life to Alzheimer.

Moving Oleta

Reba McEntire

Moving Oleta was the hardest thing he'd done.
The nurses saw an old woman crying,
But he saw the love of his life.

She don't know where she is,
But she knows this isn't home:
Love is a hard, hard road.

He met her in the summer of thirty-seven,
In a brush arbor down on the Rush Creek shore.
He loved her black hair and the mischief in her smile
But she won him with her eyes...

All the years and children gone,
He still sees her the same:
Love is a hard, hard road.

He woke up each morning and drove into town;
He stayed all day 'til her dinner came.
Then he took her to her room
Leaned on her wheelchair like a walker,
And covered her with a quilt that she'd made...

Only God and a couple of nurses,
Helped the old man shoulder the load:
Love is a hard, hard road.

He said "They tell me this is all that's left,
Say this hell on earth is best,
I list all those reasons and I still don't understand!"

He cursed his body old and weak;
Tears of failure burned his cheeks.
He said "Oh, don't you know I prayed to die before this day...:"
Love is a hard, hard road.

There's a shadow much darker than the Valley of Death,
When you fear the reaper might not come today.
They line 'em up in lazy boys out in the sunroom;
The TV keeps the quiet away...

She can't recall his name,
And she's the only love he's known:
Love is a hard, hard road...
Love is a hard, hard road.

That's what I've said: we're a small select group, and country is picky about its fans... :D

Actually, there's a lot of different brands of country music. Stuff I don't like is hillbilly or old-style country and western: that's really not my kind of music. But contemporary country, say from the nineties and 2000-2008 ain't all that bad. If you're in the right mood for it, it's decent music. Add to this bluegrass, alternative country and adult country, and it's an interesting mix to listen to from time to time. Just don't overdo it.

allison krauss - when you say nothing at all

It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word you can light up the dark
Try as I may I could never explain
What I hear when you don't say a thing

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes sayin' you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

All day long I can hear people talking out loud
But when you hold me near, you drown out the crowd
Old Mr. Webster could never define
What's being said between your heart and mine

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes sayin' you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes sayin' you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

Since the day they got married,
He'd been praying for a little baby boy.
Someone he could take fishing,
Throw the football and be his pride and joy.
He could already see him holding that trophy,
Taking his team to state.
But when the nurse came in with a little pink blanket,
All those big dreams changed.

And now he's wrapped around her finger,
She's the center of his whole world.
And his heart belongs to that sweet little beautiful, wonderful, perfect All-American Girl.

Sixteen short years later,
She was falling for the senior football star.
Before you knew it he was dropping passes,
Skipping practice just to spend more time with her.
The coach said "Hey son, what's your problem? Tell me, have you lost your mind?"
Daddy said you'll lose your free ride to college, boy you better tell her goodbye.

But now he's wrapped around her finger,
She's the center of his whole world.
And his heart belongs to that sweet little beautiful, wonderful, perfect All-American...

And when they got married and decided to have one of their own,
She said "Be honest, tell me what do you want?"
And he said "Honey, you oughta know... Sweet, little, beautiful... one just like you. Oh a beautiful, wonderful, perfect All-American..."

Now he's wrapped around her finger,
She's the center of his whole world.
And his heart belongs to that sweet little beautiful, wonderful, perfect All-American Girl.
Oh American Girl

That's a very nice one cuty-pie. :)

Here's another great one:

Don't Take The Girl - Tim McGraw

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RP1G5i5q-hk

Johnny's daddy was taking him fishin',
When he was eight years old.
A little girl came through the front gate,
Holding a fishing pole.

His dad looked down and smiled,
Said "we can leave her behind.
Son, I know you don't want her to go,
But someday you'll change your mind."

And Johnny said
"Take Jimmy Johnson,
Take Tommy Thompson,
Take my best friend Bo.

Take anybody that you want
As long as she don't go.
Take any boy in the world,
Daddy, please don't take the girl."

Same old boy, same sweet girl,
Ten years down the road,
He held her tight and kissed her lips,
In front of the picture show.

Stranger came and pulled a gun,
Grabbed her by the arm,
Said "If you do what I tell you to do,
There won't be any harm."

And Johnny said
"Take my money,
Take my wallet,
Take my credit cards.

Here's the watch that my grandpa gave me,
Here's the key to my car.
Mister give it a whirl,
But, please don't take the girl."

Same old boy, same sweet girl,
Five years down the road.
There's gonna be a little one,
And she says "it's time to go."

Doctor says "the baby's fine,
But you'll have to leave,
'Cause his momma's fading fast,"
And Johnny hit his knees.

And there he prayed:
"Take the very breath you gave me,
Take the heart from my chest.
I'll gladly take her place,

If you'll let me;
Make this my last request.
Take me out of this world,
God, please don't take the girl."

Johnny's daddy, was taking him fishin',
When he was eight years old...

Hey baby, let's go to Vegas
Kiss the single life good-bye
Hey baby, let's go to Vegas
Bet on love and let it ride

Lyin' on the bank of the river
Stars are dancin', Lord it's hot
Holdin' you is what I live for
I just had a crazy thought

Hey baby, let's go to Vegas
Kiss the single life good-bye
Hey baby, let's go to Vegas
Bet on love and let it ride

We'll find a little wedding chapel
A pair of rings and a preacher too
Underneath the neon steeple
We'll take a gamble and say "I do"

Hey baby, let's go to Vegas
Kiss the single life good-bye
Hey baby, let's go to Vegas
Bet on love and let it ride

Viva Las Vegas, sparklin' lights
Dangerous livin', tumblin' dice
You're my ace in the hole now honey
And I'm your lady luck
Pack a few things and a little money
And put 'em in the truck

Hey baby, let's go to Vegas
Kiss the single life good-bye
Hey baby, let's go to Vegas
Bet on love and let it ride

Madonna:don't tell me

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqaDdMeg1Ok

Don't tell me to stop
Tell the rain not to drop
Tell the wind not to blow
'Cause you said so, mmm

Tell the sun not to shine
Not to get up this time, no, no
Let it fall by the way
But don't leave me where I lay down

Tell me love isn't true
It's just something that we do
Tell me everything I'm not but
please don't tell me to stop

Tell the leaves not to turn
But don't ever tell me I'll learn, no, no
Take the black off a crow
But don't tell me I have to go

Tell the bed not to lay
Like the open mouth of a grave, yeah
Not to stare up at me
Like a calf down on its knees

Tell me love isn't true
It's just something that we do
Tell me everything I'm not but
don't ever tell me to stop

Don't you ever
Tell me love isn't true
It's just something that we do
Don't you ever
Tell me everything I'm not but
don't ever tell me to stop

Don't you ever
please don't, please don't,
please don't tell me to stop

Don't you ever tell me (don't you), ever
Don't ever tell me to stop

Tell the rain not to drop
Tell the bed not to lay
Like the open mouth of a grave, yeah
Not to stare up at me
Like a calf down on its knees

Kareem salama:A land called paradise.
YouTube- A Land Called Paradise - Kareem Salama - American Muslims

I wanna live in a land called paradise
I wanna go to the valley of the King
I wanna live in a land called paradise
Wanna see the birds fly and I wanna hear the angels

Sing the praises of my Lord so far above
As I move poetically with the struggle I fall in love
I look to the left I look to the right and all I gaze upon
Reveals the source of flowers rainbows and the dew at dawn
Some see before and some see in and some see after
I let my sight pierce the chains and see the master

I wanna live in a land called paradise
I wanna go to the Valley of the King
I wanna live in a land called paradise
Wanna see the birds fly and I wanna hear the angels sing

So many times in my life I ask myself the question
What got me brought me into all this mess I’m swimming in
But pain is not and neither harm in the pool of bliss
So slap me with your hand or kiss me with your softest kiss
Tell me that you love me or that you don’t like me now
Tell me you invite me or that you don’t want me around
I won’t cry over a world that can’t change my life
I’ll put my money on what lies ahead in paradise

I wanna live in a land called paradise
I wanna go to the Valley of the King
I wanna live in a land called paradise
Wanna see the birds fly and I wanna hear the angels sing

I try to do right and love my wife and trade and pray and talk
I can be anywhere doing anything and I’m mindful of God
I’m pleased in good and happy in harm and now I realize that I already live in a land called paradise

I wanna live in a land called paradise
I wanna go to the valley of the king
I wanna live in a land called paradise
Wanna see the birds fly and I wanna hear the angels

I wanna live in a land called paradise
I wanna go to the valley of the king
I wanna live in a land called paradise
Wanna see the birds fly and I wanna hear the angels sing

i love 2 country songs coz im more into rock n roll. I love the melody of those but the lyrics are great aswell

1-John denver: country roads

Almost heaven,
West Virgina
Blue Ridge Mountains,
Shenandoah River
Life is old there,
Older than the trees
Younger than the mountains,
growin like a breeze.

Country roads,
Take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia,
Mountain moma
Take me home, country roads

All my memories
Gather 'round her
Miner's lady,
Stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty,
Painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine,
Teardrop in my eye.

Country roads,
Take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia,
Mountain moma
Take me home, country roads

I hear her voice,
In the morning hour she callstone
the Radio reminds me of my home far away
and Driving down the road I get a feeling
That I should have been home yesterday yesterday

Country roads,
Take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia,
Mountain moma
Take me home, country roads
Take me home, country roads
Take me home, country roads

2-Im a man of constant sorrow by soggy bottom boys

I am the man of constant sorrow
I've seen trouble all my days
I bid farewell to ol' Kentucky
The place where I was born and raised.

The place where he was born and raised

For six long years I've been in trouble,
no pleasure here on earth I've found
For in this world, I'm bound to ramble,
I have no friends to help me now.

He has no friends to help him now

It's fair thee well, my old true lover,
I never expect to see you again.
For I'm bound to ride that Northern Railroad,
perhaps I'll die upon this train

Perhaps he'll die upon this train

You can bury me in some deep valley,
For many years where I may lay.
And you may learn to love another
while I am sleeping in my grave.

While he is sleeping in his grave

Maybe your friends think I'm just a stranger
My face you never will see no more
But there is one promise that is given,
I'll meet you on Gods golden shore

He'll meet you on God's golden shore

ENJOY ;-)

Hey, two classic country songs. Quite unusual for a rocker. ;)

I love "country roads." A beautiful song. Gives me goosebumps every time.

A few covers, not by John Denver:

Waiting for the call from Irfan Makki :

Miles away oceans apart
never been my side always in my heart
love is always there it will never die
only going stronger
a tears from my eyes
I'm thinking all the time
will the day will come
standing there before you
accepting Haj of mine
standing in Erafa
making my Tawaf
drinking blesses from well
demarche between Safa and Marwa
will candle my Iman

Oh ALLAH I'm waiting for the call
praying for the day when I can be near your Ka'aba wall
Oh ALLAH I'm waiting for the call
praying for the day when I can be near your Ka'aba wall

I feel alive and I feel strong
I can feel Islam running in veins
to see my Muslim brothers
to purpose all the same
healing one another
exulting one true mean
I truly hope one day
that every one is a Muslim
that day remembering you
in every thing they say

standing in Erafa
making my Tawaf
drinking blesses from well
demarche between Safa and Marwa
will candle my Iman

Oh ALLAH I'm waiting for the call
praying for the day when I can be near your Ka'aba wall

Too Country

YouTube - Bill Anderson & Brad Paisley - Too Country

Too country what's that
Is it like too Republican or too Democrat
Is it too far to the left
Too far to the right
Too straight down the middle
Is it too black or too white

Are the biscuits too fluffy is the chicken too fried
Is the gravy too thick are the peas too black-eyed
Is the iced tea too sweet does it have too much tang
Are there too many lemons in mama's lemon meringue

Too country what's that
It is too many pearls of wisdom under grandpa's old hat
Is it just too old fashioned is it just too antique
Is the question too strong or the answer too weak

Are the roses too red is the sunshine too bright
Are there too many stars in the heavens at night
Are there too many fish that still jump in the stream
Is the blue sky too blue is the clean air too clean

Is the grace too amazing is the steeple too tall
Are there too many "yes
sir's", "yes ma'am's"
And "how're y'all's"
Is the message too real too close to the bone
Do the fiddle and steel remind you too much of home
Is honest and true just not in demand
Too country
Too country
Too country
I don't understand.
