Northeasterly winds in excess of 90 km/h will begin to affect the region this evening.

The broad category 1 hurricane Sandy is currently located east of new jersey with winds exceeding 150 km/h. During the next few hours, Sandy should gradually transition into a large and intense post-tropical cyclone as it tracks toward the coast. The storm will move inland tonight. The effects of the storm will be felt in Quebec as of this evening. As it approaches, strong winds and rain will affect Southern and Central Quebec. Generally, 20 to 40 mm of rain is expected with higher amounts over the Charlevoix mountains. The strongest winds, possibly severe, will occur in the St. Lawrence Valley between Montréal and Quebec beginning this evening.

Meanwhile, the combination of strong winds over marine areas and the high tides period could produce breaking sea conditions along the coast.
