Absolutely not, the author analyzes the current situation in the Middle East through the lens of 21st moral standards and norms while forgetting that Arab nations were carved out by the colonial powers and the newly independent Arab states inherited illegitimate borders and weak institutions.
The Middle East is now in the midst of a nation-making process similar to what Europe went through after the peace of Westphalia in 1648.
Indeed, following the French revolution in 1789, the whole European continent turned into a massive battlefield where every war gave birth to the next one, a process that culminated with the outbreak of WW2 and its 50 millions death toll.
In the next 50 years, the four regional powers that are Turkey, Israel, Saudi Arabia and Iran are going to compete for the regional supremacy and everything that is in between will be reduced to ashes the same way than Poland and the Baltic states suffered during the numerous German-Russian wars.
