Let focus about « Place and forms of power ». What are the different forms of power and how the power can be limited? Such a question deserves attention.
I. Let us first, give a definition of power. To beginning it will be necessary to define what power means. So he refers to the ability to influence the behavior of others or to exercise control on somebody or on a group, it’s a force used by a government, one person or an institution. It’s between two groups, more often the minority are the victim, because the majority are superior and more powerful. In addition this form of authority can be exercised within a country, family, religion and in many ways that is to say with violence or without. Also, they are many sorts of abuses of power for example: abuse of media, of parents, of director… but here we focus on political abuse of power.
II. Secondly, we must consider different forms of abuse of power
a) Well, let put the stress on the Black in South Africa. They suffer of abuse of power by white Afrikaners. Often referred to as “The rainbow nation”, South Africa is a very racially diverse country. The country has a very large population with different ethnic, like Black South Africans who represent eighty pourcente (80%) of the population, Indian, Coloured... etc. And also eleven official languages who are: Afrikaans, Swazi, English, Venda, Tsonga, Zulu… etc.
Yet, SA was ruled from nineteen forty eight to nineteen ninety two (1948 to 1992) by an all-white government under the legal system of apartheid, which separated people of different race and gave black people no political and social rights. The apartheid is the opposite of democracy, who is a politic system more equal because the politic power is sharing between government and the population in order to be fair. But here, even if they are only eight pourcente (8%) of the population, the Whites are the oppressors. In fact they persecuted Black population, and they have a threatening behavior and discriminatory practices against the Black. What is important for Whites is to live like they want, without Black, because they detest them. As a consequence Black people had rules to respect. For example they were not allowed to go to the same toilets as the whites, they were forbidden to go to the same beach as the whites or to sit on the same benches (benchise), they had to carry a passport all the time and especially when they left the homelands, they are forcing to live in townships whereas the conditions are scandalizing, hazardous and the place is overcrowded. Black people were considered like animals, like inferior race or like dirty people by the Whites.
b) The situation for the Black in the USA is the same. In fact, in the USA the civil war left a heritage of bitterness and hatred. The south was so bitter towards the North to have destroyed their life and deprive of their black slaves. They made up their made to fix blacks codes; this new system deprived the Black of their voting rights and imposed the racial, economic, and social segregation of the B community. Whites and Blacks became separate but equal. That is to say they couldn’t mix together, they couldn’t live in the same neighborhoods, they are forbidden to study in the same university… Likewise that for the Black in South Africa. And as it was not enough, the enemies of Blacks created hates groups in order to discriminate the B, at night, they tortured, maltreated, beaten… Moreover the oppressors are compelled to use hood in an attempt to practice theses horrors because they are normal person, like a baker for example. The most famous hate group is the KKK. To conclude Black codes during hundred years, years of legal discrimination. During hundred years the blacks were considering as the 2nd class citizens.
c) A last forms of abuse of power we can explain is against women and young girl. Indeed since longtime and nowadays, the women know a discrimination. As for the social and economic aspect in modern country. That’s to say the salaries are not the equal, even if the job is the same. The women are considered by many men like a sexual object, she’s victim of aggression, violation, and displaced insult … The woman today is not respected.
And as for the religious and ethnics raison, in some country like India the women is very supervised, she had a lot of bans and had no choice but to accept her lot. For example in Muslim countries, population obey to the Sharia, it defines profound differences between the roles of men and role, especially women obligations... The status of women is subject to greater restrictions in particular as regards the dress code, for example, she is not allowed to wear sexy clothes or even shorts, dresses or skirts. Or legal status and civil rights, she may not speak her mind, she is not allowed to have notice, and therefore she doesn’t have political rights: she cannot vote. Morever access to education for women, they can have any job, and young girls are not allowed to go to school or learn something. And to finish the marriages and divorces is a strict topic. In fact in the Muslim faith, Sharia says that a man can marry a child of the age of one year and have sex, even if it has only 9 years old. The dowry is given to the family in exchange for the girl; the latter becomes the slave of his master, her husband. It can make use of such a toy. Under sharia law, a woman can never divorce, she has no good reason. So in order to prove that she was raped, a woman must have four men witness. Often, after the rape, she returns to her family. The family can run the woman to restore the honor of the family ... Often in the villages of Muslim countries, families are penniless that they are forced to groom their daughter; thanks to her they gain money. This is a kind of exchange; the father sells his daughter, <who will then be the subject of her husband. It is clearly intended to be under the orders of a man all his life, and his answer some needs they may be, it should not be opposed. In brief she had absolutely no freedom, expect making children and cook.
