Unfortunately, French people have way more prejudice on American people's thoughts towards Islam than they actually have. Of course, NYC is a special city but generally speaking, I feel safer as a Muslim guy in the US than in France.

I think New Yorkers are much more open minded and tolerant, even though many people are influenced by the media and Islamophobic messages, but in general I feel they have fewer misconception than in France, maybe I'm wrong
 
Yeah I agree with you.

I mean there are islamophobic assholes in America as well, but you can feel the huge majority of people just don't give a shit, everyone has the right to live and practice his religion as he wants. Freedom :)

For example, they can't understand why the islamic veil is forbidden in public spaces in France... It would be like forbidding blond hair in hospitals lol. They can agree or disagree on society matters, but personal beliefs are protected by the Constitution.
