Dear Yassine
there should be no problem for Moroccans who intend to prepare for the Canadian CGA title and then apply for equivalence with the moroccan diploma of expert comptable
As there is no all-time valid equivalence with the moroccan diploma and there is no reciprocity agreement between the two professional bodies.
Let me put this in clear words, to have the equivalence, every CGA must apply in person for his own case
But it is clear that the processus should be easier for new CGA as the title is already known by the equivalence committe which is within with the Moroccan ministry of higher education
If you check the official gazette, you will notice that the equivalnce ruling states the equivalnce of the CGA title but is limited to the applicant as this ruling states the name of the bachelor s degree and the issuing uinversity
You can check the official gazette (sgg.gov.ma) issue N 5901, page 5377
technically the new canadian title is a sort of an umbrella title as constituent accountants keep thei original title for a while
From the legal standpoint, there should be no impact of this change on Moroccan procedures, it is just a sort of name change, not a radical change
One more point is that the canadian title CPA stands for Chartered Professional Accountant and is completely distinct from the American title CPA which stands for Certified Public Accountant
And as far as i know that has been no recognition of the canadian title by overseas professional bodies
@Youssra, can you elaborate on this, what countries recognize the canadian CPA
Another important thing is that the canadian CPA has not been endorsed in all provinces, for example, in Ontario , we have rejected the unification and
i use only the title CA
Personally i don t like the new title as it introduces confusion to the american title holders.
I am personally US CPA and i have to add the state of licensing in brackets to avoid confusin
From a global perspective, the unification is a good move but at this stage , i would have welcomed only CA and CGA as CMA have different perspective
Unification is also an international trend for example US CPA have set up a joint venture with UK CMA
the UK has 5 professional bodies and are seriously thinking about unification
Am actually new to Quebec and have noticed the apparent friction between CA's and CGA's but could not understand it.
CGA s think that CA s are arrogant, so i try to hide my CA membership to CGA students ,
Finally and due to personal experience, i can tell you that the moroccan diploma is the toughest of all the professional diplomas
I could not have completed the curriculum if i was not too young
I would be more than happy to feed back on any other question
Cheers
